150cc scooter problems

trying to fix my friends chinese (presumably) scooter... a milan if it helps... it's a 150cc CVT drive

the problem is it's hard starting and when it DOES finally sputter to life, it will only stay started a few seconds and ONLY if you do not touch the throttle....

you can also smell unburnt fuel... so i'm thinking it has something to do with the carb... but i wasn't able to take it all apart (man i gotta take off every d**n body peice before i can even GET to the engine) so i don't really know anything yet...

the bike was stored for a few months, but the fuel was RAN OUT of it (not drained) and then stored in a garage (it did not touch weather)

so i'm looking for ideas on what to check... i was thinking first taking the carb out and apart and seeing if it does need a cleaning... and if all looked fine just messing with the idle s***w to see if that would get it to work

anyways what do you think.

  1. start by changing the spark plug then put in some fresh gas and add a little bit of small engine tune up that can be purchased at canadian tire if that dont work youll have to remove the carb and clean the needle and seat

  2. its in the carb, prob in the jets and/or choke. dont mess with the setpoints. it needs to be taken apart and cleaned.

  3. This is a easy fix:go to auto parts store and buy these items:

a pack of gasket materials 1/16" and 2 cans of seafoam (it is in a red and white can labled "Seafoam") it will be by the carb. cleaners and other stuff...Then take this carb off and apart soaking all parts in the seafoam, clean all parts well..keep in mind the problem with these china scotters is trash gets built up between the plastic needle/float valve inside the carb...after cleaning all parts, blow dry with air, reinstall and put a inline lawn mower fuel filter on the gas line.replace lower 1/16" bowl gasket if broken, trace the old one and cut out a new one with the gasket material..

  4. Put fresh gas in with some sea foam, and replace the plug.

    Dont adjust anything

  5. Ask your dealer where it was purchased what could be wrong with it.

  6. start with the plug mate, i know everyone says that but thats exactly what happened to my mates o7 cr 250 and after the rebuild we realised it was the plug haha
