151 at Cape Town remains one of my best Test hundreds, says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 – Cricket News Update
Australia’s Test and One Day International (ODI) captain, Michael Clarke, believes that the 151 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 at Cape Town last year remains one of his best Test hundreds, although he is disappointed that the knock failed to
help his country win the match.
On a green top at the Newlands, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Smith-c1473 won an important toss and elected to bowl first. Clarke came in to bat with his side in trouble, having lost three wickets for just 40 runs on the board.
The right-handed batsman however, rose to the occasion and played a genuine captain’s knock, smashing the Proteas to all parts of the ground, despite the fact that the track was heavily in favour of the home team’s fast bowlers.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 scored 151 runs off just 176 balls, in which he struck 22 boundaries to stamp his authority in the match, helping his side post a competitive total of 284 runs on the board.
While expressing his views in an exclusive interview with ESPNcricinfo, the middle-order batsman said that the ton gave him immense satisfaction, especially because it came under trying circumstances against one of the best fast bowling
attacks of the world.
“Personally I think it's probably the best hundred I've made for Australia,” Clarke said. “I needed to make runs for the team, they had a very good fast bowling attack in conditions that suited fast bowling.”
The Kangaroos’ batting in the second innings however, succumbed under pressure and were all out for merely 47 runs, thanks to a five-for on debut by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 the match, much to the
disappointment of the Aussie skipper, who wanted to be on the winning side, having played the knock of his life in the first innings.
“But when I say that I think it's my best Test hundred, it's one of the most irrelevant Test hundreds because of how the game panned out. I was very disappointed in the second innings, I didn't make many runs. I'd just scored 150 so
I was the one player who was in form and I needed to make runs in that second innings,” he added.
