The end of may my daughter had a double ear infection. She took antibiotics and went back to the Dr. for a fallow up. He said she was all better. I took her to this place called Stride learning center today. They so screening for eyes, development, and hearing. Everything was going great until they did the hearing test and she failed on both sides. They said it could be because of the ear infection she had about 6 weeks ago. They scheduled an appointment to recheck them in 4 weeks. By the time I got home the Dr. office was closed. I'm freaking out. Do you think it could really be because of the ear infection? Should I get he into the Dr. before the recheck her? What should I do? And what do you think it could be?

  1. The hearing loss secondary to an ear infections is most likely due to fluid build-up in the middle ear (past the tympanic membrane). The fluid build-up is called middle ear effusion (the actual term is otitis media with effusion).

I would definitely go see an ENT. The hearing loss is only temporary (it's a conductive form of hearing loss). If the effusion is serious, the doc might recommend inserting myringotomy tubes (or PE tubes) in the ear in order to drain the fluid from the middle ear.

Once the fluid is drained, I highly recommend that you take your daughter back to the audiologist to re-test her hearing. If she had normal hearing before, the drainage and absence of fluid in the middle ear will improve her hearing. :)

  2. take her to an ENT specialist and have them look at her ears thoroughly

  3. yes . take her to a doctor, she could have them again.

  4. My son had an ear infection when he had his hearing test done and he aced it so I would definintly suggest you have your daughter see an ent
