ever since I started exclusively table feeding my 16 month old, I notice his stool has become very loose and sometimes very watery. Is his body just adjusting to the table food, or is something wrong? He was on baby food until he turned 15 1/2 months. Thanks

  1. It could be that he is eating a lot of fruit and veggies and fiber.  Perhaps he is drinking too much juice?  If you don't think it is any of those things and it lasts longer than one week you will want to take him to the doctor, it could be a food or milk allergy.   You might want to be giving him pedialyte in the meantime to keep him hydrated.

  2. Are you feeding him the same kinds of food that he ate in the baby food?  Does he seem distressed or dehydrated?  If not give it a couple more days and then call a doc if it doesn't resolve itself.  One possibilty is food allergies so keep track of what he is eating.  The doc will ask about food going in and what comes out and how often and time and consistancy.  Oh the joys of parenthood.  Keep a written record so you can get your son the help he needs.

  3. Sometimes it can take a little bit for a baby to adjust to table food because if you think about it, it is way different then baby food. The food that your feeding, does it have more grease or maybe he/she just doesnt tolerate a certain food very well so have you been giving him one certain thing alot lately? Maybe just keep giving tablefood more things that would be gentle on the stomache and get him/her used to it and if the diahrrea continues consult your md. Good luck!

  4. something you fed him might have upset his system. dairy products do it for my 16 month old. my son has been eating table food since he was 1. also if he drinks too much juice it could cause this. or maybe the milk? i have to give my son soy milk. hope any of this helps

  5. Try more BRAT foods in his diet and see if it makes any difference. If you are still concerned talk to his pediatrician.

    Bananas

    Rice

    Applesauce

    Toast
