Question:

16 month old has fever but no other symptoms?

my 16 month old woke up in the middle of the night last night with a fever around 100. I gave her tea and motrin and after some time she went back to sleep.

Throughout the day today her fever kept subsiding then returning but there's no cough, no runny nose, she was her happy self for most of the day.

I'm wondering if it could be related to teething (she has her top 4 and bottom 4 so it would be the side teeth and the molars -her gums have been swollen for some time) or what else could possibly only have fever as a symptom?

Also, what are some good foods for toddlers when they have a fever? I want to feed her only light things- no meats and eggs etc.

  1. Id give her tylenol and motrin. Rotate them every four hours as needed. Try that for a couple days and see how she does. My girls always liked Jello water when the were sick. Just make jello but add twice the amount of water before it sets. It can be given in a bottle or cup. If the fever doesn't go away I would call the dr. to see what he says.

  2. This happens to my kids quite often.  I talked to our doctor about it and she said that even though the books will tell you that teething does not cause fever...she believes differently.  I agree with her.  The doc also said not to be too concerned with an infant/toddler until their fevers reach 102 or higher.  If the motrin is working, keep it up.  The doc also suggested alternating between Tylenol and Motrin for my daughters teething pain.  It worked for us...can't hurt to give it a try.

Best of luck to you both!

  3. My two smaller children, who are now 2 and 3, seemed like they had these types of fevers for a whole year. Whenever they had a fever, my pediatrician told me to always bring them in. So, I did. Every time, even though they had no other symptoms, they always either had an ear infection or a really red throat. They had no other symptoms, so I thought it could be teething too. Your best bet is to take her to the dr in the a.m. and make sure she has no sore throat or red inner ears. Most of the time, a fever is caused from some type of infection. It's best to find out what it is.

I always made sure my child drank lots of juice or water when they had a fever and they always seemed to like chicken noodles.

    Hope she feels better.

  4. Fever is the bodys way to fight something that doesn't belong-usually infection.

However, it is common for babies to have a fever during teething.Low grade fevers can sometimes cause problems for children. I would keep giving her the motrin when her fever starts to go up.Do you have a nurse hotline that you can call for advice?

Foods: Mash potatoes, oat meal, chicken noodle soup, pb&J,?
