16 month old will not sleep through the night, crying it out failed

I have 3 children and the youngest is not sleeping through the night. He never has. We tried letting him cry it out...by the book...several books in fact. But the result was a baby that stayed awake all night screaming and sobbing, throwing up etc. This kept everyone awake and took a week to recover from. The next 3 days were a nightmare after this attempt. He now insists on getting a bottle everytime he wakes up. We take shifts sleeping on that side of the house because we only get 2 hours a night if we stick to our guns and do not give him milk bottle. This has gone on for 3 or 4 months that we have tried watering down the bottles, prolonging time between bottles and the like. Has anyone ever experienced a baby like this? Has anyone any suggestions we could try?

my baby cries the whole night long, does not want a bottle, a dummy, nothing.  he just sobs, sitting on my lap.  had the adenoids removed a week ago, the crying is now worse.

i am so fed up, i don't know what to do anymore.  is it safe to just feed them stilpain?

I am drying my tears knowing that im not alone....its so bad at our house we had to get rid of the crib, he sleeps in a big boy bed cause he was terrified of the crib, I will just await the day he doesnt wake up every 4 hours. He is a growing boy and I wish i never made the mistak eof letting him cry it out, i feel like i ruined all the good i had established 7 months ago. Thanks for the reasuring words.

My son is also 16 moths old and not sleeping through the night. He wakes up several times for milk and I give him. When he  is ready he will quit himself. All kids aren't the same. My friend's daughter stop getting up for milk at 24 months. He shares bed with me and my husband but he stills get up at night for a cuddle. I'm very tired but it's ok. This woudnt last forever and right now he needs me. Few years from now u'll be begging him for a cuddle.So spent this time with him. Consider yourself lucky that he wants u. And always remember this too shall pass.
