My 16 month old has a rash down his back and his stomach. On Friday and Saturday he ran a lowgrade fever but otherwise seemed fine. What is this? Should I be concerned? His cheeks looked slighted red the past few days as well. Thanks!

  1. A rash down the back and stomach is an odd pair since they are on opposite sides of the body...it doesn't sound like something he ate, maybe something he got into or something on his clothing that he might be allergic to. Try benadryl gel on the area and if it's ok with your pediatrician, give him the appropriate amount of childrens benadryl, (i think it's around 1/2 tsp) If the rash seems to be getting smaller or lighter in color, it will probably go away on its own, if it gets darker or starts to spread, you may need to take him in to be seen. Hope this helps!

  2. Sounds like roseola (3 day measles).  My son just had it a few weeks ago.  It's a viral thing that has to just run its course.  It starts with a fever that can last anywhere from 2-5 days, then the fever goes away and a rash comes up under the skin.  At this point it's not contagious anymore.  It's nothing that needs a doctor's attention, and at this point, it sounds like he's already over it anyway.  Hope this helps!

  3. rashing could be caused by so many different things that the only way to be 100% sure call the doctor and make a appointment. thats what i would do even though its probably not anything it always makes it better when you know from a expert.
