16 month old with red chapped cheeks?

My 16 month old has had red chapped looking cheeks for over a week going on 2 weeks now. At first I thought it was a food allergy but that doesn't seem to be the issue. Then I thought it was dry skin so I was putting Vaseline on him but that hasn't helped. First thing in the morning they are hardly red but as the day goes on they get very rosy and they feel wind burned or something. What is this? Should I take him to the Dr. on Monday? Thanks!

  1. Hello. If you go on Ebay and type a search for organic it comes up with some lovely things for dry chapped or sore skin that is natural and suitable for babies.

  2. I would guess Eczema.  My son has struggled with Eczema since he was  3 months old and the only cream I found on my own to really work was called ProEcza, but you have to order it. But I evenutally took him to the Dermatologist and they gave me a cream and he has been better ever since. So yes! I would take him to the doctors. I waited way too long thinking I could solve it myself, but I guess thats what doctors are for. Good luck!

  3. Yes, do take him to the pediatrician. It might be as little as sensitive skin to wind and sun or an allergy even to a detergent or wool. It's better not to guess and ask an expert.

  4. I'm no dr. but it sounds a little like eczema.  Try Aquaphor by Eucerin or body emulsion by neutrogena. That stuff worked wonders for my sons red, dry, itchy skin.
