Alright, I turned 16 a few months ago and got my license the day after my birthday. The majority of cars that we have looked at are around $1500 a year for just liability. However, 3 cars that we have not checked with insurance have really caught my eye. The first being a mazda3 anywhere from an 04 to an 08, the second being a mazda6 with the same age, lastly a 04 mazda rx-8. I would be added to my parents progressive insurance and was curious how much the insurance would be on each of these cars? My family and I are planning on checking with an agent tomorrow but I wouldn't mind an educated guess. :) If it matters I have not had any accidents and my GPA is around a 3.25. Thanks for your help

  1. We have a 16 yr old too and have checked around for insurance.  Check more places than just Progressive (even though they allegedly compare many others) and see what you can find.  I was able to get different rates on the phone with a real person at a local agency than the price from the same insurance company's website.

Props on the 3.25 GPA.  You should qualify for good student discount.

  2. Best to choose a car that is 5-7 years old with good safety features. Something like a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla. Those cars get great gas mileage, are reasonable to insure, and are relatively inexpensive to maintain.

As per insurance, get lots of quotes

  3. I just wen t through this, i ended up getting a 1970 camaro, cuz it was cheap fast and is a whole lot of fun. I acctualy found a loophole in the insurence system (shhhh) wher i got classic car insurence for dirt cheap, cuz it's considered a collecter car : )

The mazda RX-8 and mazda 6 expect to pay $5,000 a year....it's nuts
