I'm 16 years old, going on seventeen. I don't know how to read music and I have no musical training whatsoever. I love the cello and I would love to learn how to play. But I heard it's one of the most difficult instruments to play. Am I too old to start learning it?

  1. You're never too old to go for things you want.  Give it a shot, it might change your life.

  2. My Goodness!  I started to lean cello at the age of 49! and been playing about 2 years now and loving it every second and I am pretty good already.  Of course, I will never be Yo Yo Ma but am dreaming of joining local orchestra soon.  You do need to put time & efforts though. I practice 1-2 hours everyday. And it's not one of those things that you can teach yourself, really.  Cello is very hard instrument to learn so do get a teacher, if you have desired to be any good.

  3. Defiantly not your never too old!! Get yourself some lessons and enjoy them!!

  4. dude cello is not that hard. you can be decent in a couple months. music is not that hard to learn either. especially when you want to learn. you'll learn real fast since you're older/mature/eager. pick up a cello, a cello instruction book or teacher and shed man.

this is from someone with musical training since childhood. i know some guys who started learning in their 20's and they're monsters now.

  5. You're NEVER too old to learn to do something you love.

You may never become a professional at it, but if you're doing it for the love of it, who cares? Go for it.

  6. Your never to old

    Go for it

  7. Studies have suggested that musicians who start learning an instrument before the age of seven have better inherent rhythmical skills, etc. than other musicians, but it is never too late to begin getting enjoyment out of playing a musical instrument.  Though starting at sixteen may mean you'll never be a celebrated concert cellist, you're far from over the hill.  There's no reason why you can't begin learning to play, begin learning to read music, and even join a local youth orchestra or chamber music group.

Being able to play an instrument is one of the greatest personal joys there is--creating beautiful music is supremely satisfying, and I hope for your sake that you get to try it!  Good luck!

  8. Nope, you're not too old! In fact, you're still young! If we were too old to learn new things at 16 already, life wold seem very boring soon. Go for it!

  9. I'm a great grandma. If I find I want to learn something, I try it. Even if you don't do well, you'll never regret  trying. If you don't try, someday you will wonder if you could have done it and be sorry you didn't try. Learn all you can and you will enjoy life more. Good luck.

  10. dont discourage yourself.

ive seen 70 year old men learn to play new instuments.

your never too old to learn.

  11. no way. im 18 and im going to pick it up here within the year.
