my dad is in the hospital with stage 4 bone cancer. the drs are giving him a couple of days left, and the longest he can make it is 2 weeks. there are tumors covering his entire brain, leaving him in a coma-type-sleep. he can open his eyes, but cant speak or move. i wanted to get a tattoo of his initials. i know i will never regret this. my mom and stepdad are all for this because they know my dad is important to me. but i wanted someone elses opinion on this. it would be on my neck saying "RIP BRP" or "BRP 5/20/64-???"

any opinion is welcome, i just would like to know if its going to make me look bad in a way or anything

  1. No! Don't tattoo your body.  Tattoo ink has the same chemicals that is used to paint cars.  A third of the people who get tattoos or body art get fungal infections, allergic reactions such as skin irritation, and malignant lesions such as melanoma, leprosy and other devastating diseases. Other problems associated with body art were toxic shock syndrome, tetanus, venereal ulcers, tuberculosis and a host of skin diseases. Tattoo ink is permanent but can be removed costing lots of money and scaring.  When you get older you won't be able to read the tattoo because of the wrinkles. I've included some websites for you to visit and get educated about tattooing.

You can honor your dad in many other ways.  Write a Tribute to Dad. Express the earliest memories of your dad and the impact he has had on your life. Included this with or in a scrapbook.  One day you will have children and they will love to know and see who your father was.  Scrapbooks can be passed on to generations and are priceless.  You can also make a donation to the cancer society in your father's name.  Also, you can honor your dad by making a plague, shadow box, a painting, etc...

    Sorry about your dad.

  2. tattoos in memory of someone important to you is an amazing way to remember them. you could think of something he liked and get a small (or leage if you'd like) picture of it with his initals and date or rip.

cross' are common along with hearts and wings. just make sure you watch the person doing your tat do a few before they do yours, they can put whatever they want in their portfolio it might not really be theirs!

  3. i think it would me a great idea i would go with BRP 5/20/64-

i know how horrible it feels when your dad his is sick mine just batteld throat cancer one of the rarest kinds no less and got a clean bill of health then some stupid 17 year old hit him wile he was on his mortercycle and hes been in rehab for over 3 months and is just starting to walk

  4. i don't think it would look bad and if it something your mom is okay with as long as you can come up with a design you like I think it would be okay..if you do be sure you take care of it very well because they can get infected.

  5. well i have 7 tattoos soon to be 8 my advise is if you are going to do this on your neck do it on the back so your hair can cover it if its long or put it on your arm or pick a spot that can be covered i say this only cause when you get older and want to get a job some places will look badly at this!!! its sad and unfair but its true. all of my tats can be covered or can be visable if i want!!! good luck with the tat and i am sorry to hear about your dad

  6. I think it would be sweet for you to get one, then show your dad. =] tattoos are a wonderful way of rememering someone you love. Im very very sorry about your dad. =[

  7. thats a great idea. i am also getting a tat in honor of someone i lost. i wouldnt do RIP just because it doesnt sound that respectful and loving. BRP 5/20/64-??? sounds good. you could even put below it love you dad or something. good luck and i am so sorry for your future loss.

  8. sorry about your dad. but, i think tattoos are a great way of remembering people (actually one of the best, in my opinion). does he have a favorite team or animal or something along those lines to get tattooed on you? i know my friend who passed away was "my kangaroo" (long story) for the longest time. when i'm of age i want to get a roo on my back with 2.10.07 (the day he died) underneath it. if you just want words though, then that's also a good idea. i would get his name (dad or brp) and the day he passed away.

  9. i think getting it on your neck would be kinda weird. One of my friends got a tattoo on his chest when his grandmother and grandfather died. If you get it on your chest it would be more symbolic because it is closer to your heart. Also, consider getting his full name, and spell out the date and look up a quote that reminds you of him, or a quote from him .. or look in the bible.

  10. i totally feal for you . maybe if your parent signs a waver or some thing you can et one but if you cant until your 18 try henna. hope it works out and oh by the way i dont think it would look tacky.

  11. i'm sorry about your dad! :(( I like "BRP 5/20/64"

i am really sorry about your dad tho

  12. some people dont like tattoos

    i hate em

but i think this one is exception

    go for it

  13. I love tattoos that mean something and I like how you want to memorialize you father; however, I would also suggest you pick some place other than your neck. You still want to be able to look professional when you're older and working. Maybe doing it a little lower? (on the top of your back between your shoulder blades would look nice). Also, I think it may look better just having his initials done (maybe have them interlocking?). Just a few ideas because I think what you're doing is very touching.

  14. i think thatr is a really lovely, thoughtful thing to do for your dad.

I say go for it (:

You could always get dad put on your neck in the next few days  and show him it, im sure he will love it. And then after he has passed you could get his dates added?

But yeah, whatever you choose go for it

Good luck and all the best

    God bless your father (:
