My 16m old used to fall asleep easily and sleep throught the night. But recently it took her an hour to fall asleep. And starting 10 days ago, she wakes up at midnight for 4 hrs. She wants to be hold&walk or put into a stroller. Yesterday I had to let her cried for more that 2 hrs. What can I do? Can this be due to her learning to walk or health problem?

  1. Cut down on her naps, she is getting too much sleep during the day, only let her sleep 1 hour and she will be cranky but very tired at night, Also she could be teething, check her mouth and if she is give her some Motrin to help her sleep. Kids get into really bad habits at that age and it's very important to get them back on to a normal schedule. My son did the same thing for awhile and I had to cut down his daytime sleeping.

  2. it could be walking i know my son would wake up when he learned to roll over and crawl and when he learned to pull up that was not fun cause he couldnt get down so i would have to go and lay him down like four to five times before he would get that it was bed time. at around six months i asked his doctor should he be sleeping all night he said yes. and told me if i didnt start on him he would be like that till he was five or older. so i had to let him cry for three hours. not fun. well come to find out i had to stop breast feeding cause he wasnt getting enough. but other then that he slept through the night and has every since. the last week our cat has been in twice and both times that she was in he woke up at 430 so i think she is waking him up. but most of the time i can give him a small bottle and he will go back to sleep. he will go to bed without one, it is just in the morning he hasnt had anything in a long time so i dont mind. i wouldnt put her in the stroller cause that could go on for a long time. my son still uses his fish tank it sings for about 15 mins. i dont have the light on just to were it plays and that helps him clam down and know that it is bed time. u might want to get a soft song that she likes and play in lightly in her room when she does wake up and see if that will help. or see if she needs a teady or blanket. at this age is when they start to need something other then mommy to feel safe. or she will start to want to take over your bed which should be for  u and your husband only. i would see if she has a fav teady or something my son had a duck from TY he loves it it is so soft and not too big or small for him. i would try that or a passy something to help her sooth her self. she could be having a hard time with the walking. but if it gos on too long i would talk to doctor. well good luck

  3. maybe you should try keeping her up longer to wear her out..that may help her sleep during the night...or if she takes a nap during the day make the nap earlier and dont let her sleep too long...try it for a little while if it doesnt help ask your doctor....

  4. Take your child to the pediatrician to rule out anything medically wrong like ear infection, teething pain, etc.  If there is nothing wrong medically then discuss options of helping your child ease back into sleeping.
