16th South-East Asian Junior Men’s Volleyball Championship 2010, Thailand: Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam remain successful in Robin Round
The 16th Southeast Asian Junior Men’s Volleyball Championship is scheduled to run from 24-28 September, 2010 in Ratchaburi, Thailand. The championship greeted six teams from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Australia and Myanmar. The team
are playing in the robin round and three matches are planned to be covered on daily basis.
On Sunday, 26th September, 2010 Indonesia clashed with Malaysian team, while hosts Thailand played against Australia. Likewise, Myanmar took on Vietnam in the last match of third day. Indonesia, Thailand, and Myanmar proved to be the better teams
and clinched triumph in their respective encounters.
Indonesia vs. Malaysia 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, and 25-19)
First match of the third-day saw Indonesia and Malaysia in court. The teams played the match in a totally sold-out Ratchaburi Gymnasium in Thailand. Indonesia exhibited outstanding performance and hammered the other side in three straight sets. Indonesia
played with a great style and outplayed Malaysian team with powerful serves and spikes. They were able to pull off first-set win with a margin of 7 points.
Indonesian team continued with success in second set and attained the leading role in game. Malaysia had weak defence and few ball-reception errors pushed them in the danger-zone. The Indonesian hitters jumped on every ball and converted it into swift spike.
Malaysia failed to tie the game and lost the second set. Furthermore, third set supported Indonesian team and they claimed a 3-0 victory over Malaysia.
Thailand vs. Australia 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 25-17, and 25-22)
The hosts Thailand stroke with Aussies in second match and enjoyed victory over strong competitors. Australia produced deadly spikes in the first set and put pressure on Thailand’s team. Australian Leachart Corey Shawn created a lot of buzz in game by delivering
unstoppable volleys. Thailand had no chance to stop Australian score to go higher. The Aussies took their score to the finish line and claimed first set (25-21).
The lost of opening set aggravated Thai players. They formed new combinations and developed a better timing in second set. Australian team resisted their score but Thailand took advantage of emotional support from their fans and managed to earn points. They
secured the second set win by sending 25-18 and levelled the score at 1-1. The following two sets were also captured by Thailand, which put them in the winners’ category. Austria lost the match against home-side Thailand after an under-pressure game.
Myanmar vs. Vietnam 3-2 (25-21, 28-26, 22-25, 14-25, and 16-14)
In the last pool-play of the day, Myanmar struggled with hard-earned victory over Vietnam. The match covered five flights in the succession of game. Myanmar played with great consistency in first set and achieved the competitive edge on
Vietnam’s team. They scored points by hitting the ball in gaps and helped the score to rise up. First set ended with a score of 25-21 and Myanmar was the successful team.
The second set was tiring long set and Vietnam threw everything in attack to take revenge from Myanmar. Anyhow, Myanmar remained calm in their shoes and defended their score. The players of Vietnam made nice sharp moves but Myanmar stayed hand-in-hand with
them. Finally, Myanmar got two consecutive points which finished the set at 28-26. The game entered the third set and Vietnam continued their attack-attempts. In the meantime, Myanmar lost grip on the ball and gave way to Vietnam’s success in third set.
The victory filled Vietnam’s team with new spirit and they found a direction to move along. The audience saw the twist in game as Vietnam equalled the score at 2-2 by winning the nest set. Once again, both teams had the equal chances to win the match. However,
thanks to Myanmar’s hitters, who ended the drama with cruising spikes and ousted Vietnam with 16-14 victory. Myanmar joined the winners of the day-three.
