16th Southeast Asian Junior Men’s Volleyball Championship 2010, Thailand: Australia, Myanmar and Thailand capture success on final day
The 16th Southeast Asian Junior Men’s Volleyball Championship completed its circle from 24-28 September, 2010 in Ratchaburi, Thailand. Six teams from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Australia and Myanmar participated in the tournament.
The team played the last three matches of the tournament on Tuesday, 28th September, 2010. Vietnam, Myanmar and Thailand remained successful in their respective matches.
Vietnam vs. Australia 0-3 (18-25, 14-25, and 20-25)
The teams from Vietnam and land-down-under (Australia) played the first match on final day of the campaign. Vietnam started well and gained good reputation by gaining early points. Aussies took a little time to settle down in their positions and returned
the ball in Vietnam’s court. Aussies gradually picked up pace in game and quickly surpassed opponents. They built a lead and carried it on. The nice floaters and perfect serves helped them touch the finish-line in 22 minutes. Australia got into a strong position
by ending the first set with 25-18 win.
The victory set a right direction for the Australian team and they dominated Vietnam in second set with a well-constructed lead. Aussie players easily managed to subdue Vietnam and earned second-set victory with a score of 25-14. After dropping the first
two sets, Vietnam struggled to hit-back Australia in third set. They put-up a good fighting score but Australia proved to be better in attack and defence. Aussies claimed the third set and achieved the match victory. Leathart Corey Shawn was the top scorer
from Australian side. He contributed 8 valuable points in team’s score. Likewise, Nguyen Van Hoc of Vietnam captured the top-scorer spot in Vietnam’s team. He helped his team’s score 5 points.
Malaysia vs. Myanmar 1-3 (23-25, 25-21, 16-25, and 18-25)
In the second match of the day, Malaysia received a shocking defeat from Myanmar. The Ratchaburi Gymnasium in Thailand was filled with 980 spectators in the second match. The coach, Zulyadi B Zakaria’s team couldn’t perform well and lost the battle to Myanmar.
The first set was a close-fight between the two contenders of 16th Southeast Asian Junior Volleyball Championship. Myanmar outshined with brilliant performance and captured the first set (25-23).
Malaysia put great effort in the following set and thrashed Myanmar’s lead. The Malaysian players attacked Myanmar’s defence line and successfully stretched the gap of points. The team got its pride back with second set win over Myanmar. The scoreboard was
highlighted with a score of 25-21. Aung Thu of Myanmar formed a good chemistry with setter in third set and raised team’s score. The combo devastated the Malaysian side with sharp spikes and quick bump-passes. Once again, Myanmar attained better status and
finished the third set on a good note. They won the set with the help of 25-16 and moved ahead in the game. Myanmar put more pressure on Malaysian team in fourth set and didn’t give them a chance stay on their feet. Malaysia Cheoh Jia Ming hit some wonderful
spikes but Myanmar took the game away from them. Myanmar announced victory by capturing fourth set (25-18).
Thailand vs. Indonesia 3-1 (24-26, 25-17, 25-20, and 25-19)
The last encounter of the day brought Thailand and Indonesia in the court. The two sides of the net were captured by expert players. The guest team Indonesia displayed impressive play in first set and snatched 26-24 victory from hosts Thailand. Thai players
reacted violently in second set and avenged Indonesia by sending 25-17. The following two sets were also dominated by Thailand. They maintained a good lead over Indonesia and secured the final two sets. Chanchai Kitsada was the top-scorer of victorious team
with 25 points. He incorporated 44 attack attempts and contributed major points in team’s score.
