So I am moving to Vancouver this summer, with a friend of mine who's 18, will I need a co-signer still? If I want to go earlier like in June, would I need a co-signer? And could my grandma be a co-signer? Thanks.

  1. You only need one person to sign the lease.Any residents under 18 are  not required to sign You would need a co-signer if you were moving on your own.I have been on my own since i was 17 and never needed a co-signer since i found a place not requiring a lease. Not all landlords require one.It is in your best interest to have one since it protects both parties involved. But i have never had a problem and have had many places without a lease.

Any one can co -sign for you as long as there at least 18 and have a decent credit rating. If they have a bad credit rating the land lord will not rent it to them.Since the co-signer is actually renting it for you.If you do not pay the rent they will not come after you. They will call your co-signer instead.

  2. A co-signer for your apartment? No - you are too young to sign a lease. Grannie could be a co-signer, but only if your landlord approves. They usually prefer the lease-holders (technically that's what your grandmother would be) live in the apartment.

  3. Hah...just sign and see how hard it is for them to kick you out.  Once you're in, you're in...friggin' laws suck...

  4. yes your g'ma could co-sign but if ur friend is 18 that most likely wont be a problem

  5. If your friend is 18 he should be able to get a place of his own and nobody needs to "co-sign" unless his credit is bad or limited. Its not that u r really having someone Co-sign for u. They are just putting the lease in their name and taking responisbility if u dont. So it's basically like a co-signer just a little different. You can have anybody put the lease in their name for u thats willing to do it. It could be your dad, grandma or even someone you met off the street 5 minutes previous to filling out the form (I doubt anyone is that generous tho...I wouldnt be). Have your buddy see if he can do it first, if not then u may need to have ur grandma sing the lease for the 2 of u.

And as far as Mab said: Most landloards require that the signer/co-signer live IN the apartment. Thats not true. I had an apartment in someone else's name and we lived there. It was not a problem.

  6. yes your grandmother could co sign for you but make sure u have your finanical situation straight because if not u can really damage her credit wow 17 & 18 are you going to school ect. those are young ages to be stiking out on your own make sure u have plenty of adult support to offer advice ect. because I know I made alot of mistakes when I first moved out on my own most because of poor planning are back at home in three years. good luck and plan well

  7. Your not buying a car your renting a apartment. You dont need a co signer. Just put the lease in your grammas name have her sign it no prob.

  8. A co-signer for what?  Your apartment.  If you need a co-signer no you can't sign it.  You cannot legally enter into a contract under the age of 18 and as far as having your grandma sign probably not.  Most landloards require that the signer/co-signer live IN the apartment.  But not everywhere requires a co-signer.
