17 Premier League clubs eyeing League Two side Crewe Alexandra FC striker Max Clayton
Crewe Alexandra FC manager Dario Gradi said he did not consider the rumours linking http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 under-17 international has attracted a host of Premier League sides, with as many as 17 sides
having sent their scouts to watch him.
The interest from the Premier League sides could only mean one thing; they will try and lure the League Two striker to the top flight competition. However, Gradi did not feel the youngster would benefit from a move to the Premier League this early on in
his career.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Clayton-c9339 is a graduate of the Crewe Alexandra youth academy, making his senior debut for the League two side this season. He has so far made two appearances in the league and recently scored his first goal for the club against Macclesfield.
There is no doubt that the young English striker has the makings of a top player, but Gradi felt it was important for him to continue with the League Two outfit to develop further. According to the manager, the player’s growth would be stunted by the pressures
in the top flight.
Gradi said in an interview:
“It doesn't do anyone any good, it raises the expectation level.
There's a high expectation placed on these kids. For instance, there's a line in the newspaper linking Max with Tottenham. His parents are terrific and that's why he's handling it very well, but sometimes the parents can get carried away and they put
expectation on their kids.”
Gradi revealed the increase of young players in the Premier League and the expectations placed on them just proved how tough English football was. He felt sometimes the parents of underage players did not necessarily make the right decisions for their children.
However, he was certain Clayton’s parents would make the right choice when it came to a possible move to the Premier League. He did not think Clayton was ready for the pressure of top flight as yet, especially since he was still in the process of developing.
He continued:
“With the great rewards that there are now for players who make it to the top, there's definitely more pressure than there used to be.”
