  1. I dont think you'll be able to support your family with 17 an hour, that is ok if you are a student for the type of job you do, i would say 30 to 50 an hour...try to negotiate with the employer, but once you are hre you can alwys fin a better job, I'd recommend you come by yourself first stablish, find a place, and then bring your family, you can also call this place for help once you are here they ahve very good helping new immigrants. tambine habaln en espanol y te pueden ayudar y guiar mas en lo que es trabajo)

  2. Yes, that's a good starting wage for sure.  Edmonton wages are some of the best in Canada.

  3. The average pay for skilled workers in Canada is between $25 and $40 an hour.  Hope this gives you an idea, as you don't say what type of work you do.

  4. En la ciudad de Edmonton 18 dólares por salario de hora no está muy bien debido al coste para vivir allí. Otras ciudades en Canadá 18 dólares serían un salario bastante decente, pero no grandes.

  5. Alberta is currently a very expensive province to live in because there isa housing shortage and it is difficult to find a place to live. So the companies will generally pay more for people to come work here.

The minimum wage salary in Alberta is currently $8.40 per hour. That means you will be making more than double the minimum. That is good. You should have a salary of $680.00 per week, or about $3000 per month. But that salary is BEFORE taxes. Income tax, Employment insurance, Union dues, Canada pension plan and possibly others might be deducted from that amount, especially if you will be living and working here for two years. Normally, the average Canadian "take-home" salary is a bit more than half of their actual salary. So you will probably be earning $1600-1700 per month net.

Now you must calculate the costs of living in Edmonton area. You can expect to pay $700-1200 for rent (per month) in Edmonton. You will need food, so estimate $400 or more for a family of three per month. If you will be taking public transit, you will need monthly bus passes.

Do you plan to have a telephone? That is not included. Do you want to get a television? Add that to the monthly costs. Sometimes heating and electricity costs are included in the apartment rental, sometimes these are separate. Make sure to find out before leasing a home.

You will want to make a list of the expenses, and a list of the money you will be earning, then calculate exactly how much salary is needed to come live in Canada and make it worth the trip.

    Good luck.
