17 to young to travel to America?

I'm 17 and live in New Zealand and iv been planing to go back to the USA, CA for a while now and stay with some good friends i made on an exchange trip, and i have saved up myself over the last year. But now my mom thinks its to dangerous for me to travel (direct flight) by myself.

Is she right?

18 is the legal age in the United States, and being a minor in California is not always that great.  In Orange County there is a 10 o'clock curfew for minors, you might want to wait until you are 18 to travel here to the States (and then you could do more things later in the evening), but if you are able to handle your self in a mature fashion and can rely on yourself so far away from home, I think you'd be fine.

I dont think its dangerous, kids over 5 are allowed to travel alone on airplanes.  the person above me made good points about Cali  but overall its not too young, you are staying with people you know and trust.   hope it works out.
