Question:

17 too old to read Twilight?

I've been thinking about reading the twilight books, and I see a lot of people recommend the books, but the problem is that they're 14/15 year olds, and I know how obsessive you teens can be. Not to say that in a bad way, just I want to read books that are geared toward my age group. Any older readers, or younger fans who can actually EXPLAIN why to read the books besides "it's the best, you just HAVE TO READ IT!", can you summarize why or why not to read the books? How is the writing style, is it fluid writing or no? Thanks in advance.

  1. You are not to old too be reading Twilight.  I have a group of friends who are in their mid-forties and they are reading the series.  One theme that I picked up from the books is that sin is a choice.  Eventhough Edward's nature is to kill people and drink their blood, he chooses not to.  That is why I read the books.

  2. lol its fine yes im only 15 but most of my friends are 17-20 lol my older sisters bf read it and he's 24 and my moms reading itO_O

  3. My mum is reading twilight, you'll be fine.

  4. here is links to summaries of the books:

    http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/newmoon.ht... new moon description

    http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/eclipse.ht... eclipse description

http://www.twilightthemovie.com/ click on synopsis when you get there, it has a really good description of twilight and a few videos :)

Here are my reasons to read twilight!!!

    1. It's a long book and sense i read fast it fills up my free time during the summer

    2. I love romantic books and this is the best one i've read yet! It like a forbidden love story which makes it really interesting!

    3. It also has a lot of action/horror which adds interest!

    4. It keeps you on your toes through the entire book and when you finish you have to read the rest in the series!

    5. Although i'm not big on mythical creatures and other science fiction stuff in books such as vampires, i really enjoyed twilight!!!

    6. You can relate to Bella! and she is not your typical blond i'm so perfect person :)

    7. It is well written

    8. has a great plot

i know those aren't the best reasons so that's why I included the summaries! For me the writing style is fluid. It also has lots of words that I didn't know so  it widened my vocab (haha that sounds really geeky but it's true) Also you are definitely not to old to read the books!

    hope this helps!

  5. Well, there are a lot of middle school and even elementary school kids into Harry Potter but that doesn't stop it from being a good series. Books written for a younger audience are going to be geared towards the average reading level for that age group. That means the word usage will be more restricted and descriptions and the over all length of the book are generally shorter but that doesn't stop it from being a good narrative. I can't comment specifically on Twilight because I haven't read it yet but I'm 20 years old and I still read and enjoy books written for a younger audience sometimes. It's certainly not because I have low literacy skills. I simply enjoy books of all kinds. There's no reason why you couldn't do so as well.

  6. I'm 21 gong on 22, these books are absolutely amazing. I heard someone yesterday describe them as the next harry potter books. The thing is they are so much more than that. I read all the harry potter books. This has the same edge of a story that makes you want to completely immerse yourself in the book. I started reading them on Saturday, and last night after finishing New Moon i had to run to walmart to buy the next two they are that addicting. The author has an Amazing way of spinning a story. Its better than the harry potter books, more gripping and a more adult story line. It never gets raunchy and is at the level for anyone 18+ can enjoy it as well.

  7. I am 19 and just finished Twilight and my mom is 50 and adores the series. I know a ton of college girls (and boys) who love Twilight.

  8. I think you would enjoy it. For one, the narrator, Bella, is 17 starting out in Twilight. I find her really easy to relate to. The writing style is pretty fluid, but not monotonous. Stephenie Meyer put in just enough plot twisters to keep you hooked. She also writes really well with emotions, pulling you into the book until you're in love with Edward just like Bella is. Honestly, i first read them about a year ago and couldnt read anything else for about a month. My mom even read them to understand why i was in love with a vampire! I really think you'll like them. The first three books are okay for younger readers, but it gets a little dicey in Breaking Dawn (the 4th and last book in the series).

  9. this book is a about two 17 year olds that are destine to each other, throughout the book stephenie meyer (the author) qoutes shakespeare before chapters, one of the quotes refer to two star cross lovers but its not your everyday sappy love story it has romance, suspense and you just do not want to put the book down. so there really isnt any age limit because ive seen 40 year olds reading it so i hope this will help you. then like what every girl has said: it is the best book ever and you have to read it.

  10. I definitely do not think that seventeen is too old to read the books. I am a thirteen year old who has read them all, and I would say that they (especially the fourth) should be for people around your age. Maybe like sixteen. Its a romance book, and it also has a lot of action. Its full of unexpected twists and when I was reading it I couldn't put it down. People who don't read it would probably describe it as a fantasy book if they know its about vampires, but I think its far from fantasy. It seems so real and Stephenie Meyer (the author) makes it so easy to believe that vampires really exist. Its amazing how real it is despite some of the things that happen in it. I hope you read it!

  11. My sisters 17 (im 14) and she read Twilight and them passed out...

But she feels faint like all the time with blood and stuff, i found it quite funny! Its not even that bad!

  12. You're not too old to read Twilight (I read it when I was 19-20), but you probably won't appreciate it as much as all the 14-year-olds who are crazy about it. The writing style is mediocre - ie, someone is either glowering or smirking every other page - and the pacing is terrible, because literally the first 300+ pages contain no plot other than "Oh, hi, I'm a high school girl who fell in love with a centuries-old vampire!" and there's only one brief fight scene, during most of which the narrator is unconscious. New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn just go further and further downhill from there... If you're looking for the whole high school vampire romance thing, go rent Buffy (and Angel, while you're at it, it's a spin-off and SO worth watching). Joss Whedon did the same plot line, but over a couple dozen TV episodes, and with some of the most brilliant writing I've ever seen in a TV series, or movie, or anything else pop-cultural for that matter.

  13. not at all. it is a love story so you'll be just fine. i love the twilight series

  14. I read Twilight at age 30.   The writing style is okay. . .  I mostly read it because it was touted as a vampire book, and I love to read vampire books (partially to see how various writers handle/change that vampire legends).   If this tells you anything, I could not get into the second book, New Moon.   I've tried.   I sort of skimmed the third book.  I may try to read the fourth book, since I've heard so much about it.  That said, really, in my opinion, there are much more well-written vampire books compared to Twilight.

You should at try to read the first book for your "cultural bag" (as an Art History assistant professor I had as an undergrad told us about - her reason why we should all see Pulp Fiction way back in the 90s.  She was right - it really wasn't my kind of movie, but I am glad I saw it, so I knew what people were talking about.)

  15. Well at the beginning of the book, both of the main characters are 17, so actually you are the perfect age! I'm 16, and I love the books. [:

The writing style is easy to follow and there aren't any hard words in the writing. It's a good, fun and easy read.

  16. I am 26 and read them, though they were not my favorite. I thought the characters were boring and the romance was described in such a saccharine-sweet way that it made me frequently want to vomit.

Read them if you are curious. That is why I did it. You might love them. You are, after all, the same age as the main character.

  17. My cousin's reading them and she's 30.. she's really enjoying them and says they're well written and interesting.
