Question:

17 year old getting drivers license-insurance rates?

I got my learner's permit last year and I can get my license now. My mom wants me to wait and take a course to lower the insurance. Which course would I take? Would it have to be online or actually driving? How long would I have to take the course? Also, what kind of car should I look into that is fuel efficient and has low insurance rates? I live in Miami, Florida.

Sorry for bundling up the questions but thanks in advance.

  1. You need to talk to your insurance company about which defensive driving courses they accept - that's what the course is, and they all have a list of schools that they find acceptable.  The course is usually only a few hours.

There aren't going to be any "low" insurance rates for a new driver - just make sure you don't get any tickets or have an accident..

  2. You could probably take some form of defensive driving class. They offer it in an actual classroom setting or you can take it online.  Make sure you ask your insurance company which courses they accept to lower your premium. The best car you can drive as a teen is something that is 5-7 years old and is not a sports car or luxury car.  I always recommend something like a Honda or Toyota because they are reliable, get good gas mileage, and are less expensive to insure.

Also, make sure you ask your insurance company about any other special discounts you may qualify for such as the low mileage discout (drive less than 5,000 miles a year) or good student discount (B average or better). Ask your mom to compare quotes from a few other insurance companies as well.  You might find that the company your mom currently have doesn't have good rates for teen drivers, and it's always a good idea to explore all your options.  The site below is really helpful because it allows you to compare quotes for all of the insurance companies in your area for free so you can find the cheapest rate possible.

    Hope this helped!

  3. I'm not an expert on this, but I would suggest you take a tour here, there are expert's tips over there.http://car-insurance.online-helpers.info...

  4. You need to take a drivers ed course, actual behind the wheel driving. Insurance for a new driver is always expensive, its better to drive your parents' car and have you added on their policy, getting your own car means you have to have your own policy for insurance, and that will cost a lot.
