Hi all! My name is Paul and I am a 17 year old male interested in starting male artistic gymnastics. I am very fit and strong and love a challenge. I would assume my body type is quite practical for gymnastics and that I would be able to catch on quite quickly.

I was just wondering if I would be alright with beginning this sport?

I notice a lot of people saying that you need to start earlier, but I think being male it doesn't exactly apply. After all, the male gymnasts at the Olympics are very bulked up, and, you can't exactly gain that kind of muscle until your late teenage years.

Your thoughts please...

  1. You can start, but you have to know that most people who train it have up to 10 more years of experience and practise. If that won't dispirit you, then go for it...

  2. Sure is,...put your mind to it and dedicate time. Do this and you will do really well.

    Hope this helps.

  3. If you're elastic then you can :)

  4. the bulk is not what makes them gymnasts. you need a couple years of practice, years of flexibility training, years of experience in knowing how to execute certain things. As you get older it becomes harder to start things. Its like learning a language, its much easier to get it down while you're young and as you get older you perfect it.

  5. EXACTLY! yes. that would be lovely for you.
