  1. I agree. I fly a 172XP with some similar properties. Takeoff power is 2700 RPM/26" MP. After 200', I reduce prop rpm to 2600. After 500', I reduce rpm to 2500 or less and keep manifold pressure around 25-26" until 1000' agl. Then I adjust according to the POH. My plane climbs great at 2500 rpm. What settings does your POH recommend?


  2. I would say a couple hundred feet, after you have cleared obstacles and are established at best rate or cruise climb.

    Takeoff power is limited to five minutes typically.  It is best to get the power down to prevent excessive engine wear and temperatures.

    It is also courteous to your airport neighbors, who might not appreciate the noise.
