Oue son use to go to sleep eaily at night and wake once a night but would easily go ack to sleep, I recently sent my partner away with the kids to her sisters while I did a bathroom renovation for two weeks, during that time they slept on matresses and since he has come back he does not want to go sleep in his cot at night, I have tried going in every 10 or so minutes to reasurre him, when i go in will go quiet and looks like asleep and as soon as i get up will start crying, the only way to get him to sleep is to sleep in his room. If you get out of there and he wakes up will scream.

I know he has gotten out of his routine which we had pretty downpacked, how long does it take for him top get back to th routine?, or after sleeping on a matress would he be ready for a bed. Also i have notice he has become very clingy to his mother since they have come back, how do we overcome this?

  1. Hi Ewen,

I think that it is just that he has got out of his good sleep habits and dropped into some different habits.

I think the most important thing to start with is to get your baby back into a good sleep routine.  This could take a short while but if he has slept well before then he can certainly do it again!

I had massive problems with getting my 4 month old son to sleep.  He would just lie awake and cry for hours, then when he finally went to sleep he would wake every hour or two hours through the night and cry again!  Talk about pulling our hair out .... we were absolutely desperate for sleep!

It was a baby sleep audio program recommended by a friend that finally saved us. We followed the advice and began by creating a baby sleep routine which included bathtime, dimming of the lights, putting James into his crib, final nappy change and then lullabies. We also made recommended changes to his naps during the day and used some of the other recommended techniques. Within two weeks he was sleeping through the night most nights with just the odd night where he would just wake once!

Definitely start by creating a good baby sleep routine though and you could find that solves most of your baby sleep problems.

    Good luck!
