Besides the American stereotype of going to the red light district and coffeeshops, u can look around in the city, visit famous museums, shop, go to other citys in the area like: Rotterdam, Zandvoort, Haarlem, Den Haag, Utrecht.

U can go out in many clubs, bars and cafe's in the city.

And u can travel by train its not so expensive and many people in Holland can speak english.

This is a good question and I'd like to see some answers.  You should go to the book store and find a book on amsterdam.  

A friend just came back from there and they have HASH BARS where it is legal to smoke weed  :)
