Question:

18 mo old's p***s problem (kind of graphic)?

My son is 18 mos old, was circumcised when he was 2 days old, and soon after he was born when he was in for a well baby check, the dr noticed the skin on the shaft of his p***s was coming back up to the tip and adhering there. He told me to pull the skin back when I was changing his pants to keep it from adhering. Well, I guess I didn't do it right, because the skin re-stuck to the tip. He told me that his "fat pad" on his tummy needed to go away before he could do anything. Well, yesterday we were in for the 18 mo checkup and the fat pad has gone away. The dr had to grab the tip of his p***s and pull the skin back down. This was awful. Now I have to apply vasoline to it every time I change his pants and let me tell you this must be extremely painful for my little guy! Has anyone had this happen and did the little penises turn out normal(because my son's still looks like that skin want to be down all the way) and also why did this happen - was it a bad circumcision?

  1. My son had the same problem, I belive it is called hypospadius. I am sure that is spelled wrong. Go see a pediatric urologist. My son had surgery for it when he was 9 months old, he is now 3 and has had no problems since then.

Our son had it because of a genetic condition that caused a condition called mircro p***s, but I am told that it can be caused by many things. I think your best bet is to take him to see a pediatric urologist.

Thank you Jenna T. I couldn't remember all the details. I just remember needing to pull the skin back from the tip of his p***s everytime I changed him. My son's condition came from a genetic disorder called Kallmans Syndrome.

    good luck

  2. your supposed to pull the skin back when you change them but my son had a plastic thing on him after he was circumcised & now he has a bit of extra skin. I wouldn't say it was a bad job but keep it clean &pull it back when you change him so it dosen't stick I think it has something to do with moisture. poor little guy at least he's little enough he won't remember don't worry

  3. The used to remove quite a bit of skin, but they found out that when the little boys grew up, they had actually removed TOO MUCH skin, and the men had painful, bleeding erections. So now they leave more skin behind to prevent that. Its not a botched circumcision, its normal. In a way, your son is lucky, because he will have skin to grow into. Your doctor is right, he will grow into it. After puberty, it will look like a circumcised p***s. Readhereing is also very common. Ripping it is not nessecary- it will ussually seperate on its own, but you can ask for steroid cream to seperate it gently over a week or two instead of forcefully ripping it. In fact, ripping it can cause further injury. Circumcision has all kinds of nasty side effects because you are surgicaloy altering your sons anatomy. Often doctors gloss over these. In reality they are pretty common, but are not signs of a "botched job", but rather of the body trying to heal itself from the amputation. -Neb

  4. Yes it is a botched circumcision - circumcisions are rarely performed perfectly which is why the American Acadamy of Paediactrics says that the risks outweigh any possible benefits and they no longer recommend parents do it.  The evidence of any benefits at all are very slight.  So it was done for no reason whatsoever.

This complication is known as a skin bridge by the way:

A skin-bridge is formed when the raw remnant where the f******n was cut attaches to the raw surface of the glans and heals that way.

An intact p***s requires no special care, so it would have been best to have left him be:

  5. i had twin boys but this didn't happen to them. but i feel your pain. but i know someone who this did happen to. it's very rare but it does happen unfornatly. but just keep doing what your supposed to do and pray that everything goes alright. it turned out fine for my friends son.

  6. It's not normal because you've had some removed and then further messed with it by stopping it from adhering and the doctor hurting it by pulling it down! That's not a good thing to do it can cause injury in the area, little tears etc. and turn what is meant to be sensitive skin into scar tissue. I recommend you just leave it alone. the adhering skin is the body's attempt to heal itself. It's not a bad thing. it will change as he grows.

  7. sounds like it was a bad circumcision i feel for your little guy just comfort him when you clean him

  8. I don't know if that is what's wrong. This is what that lady is talking about.

Hypospadias is a birth defect of the urethra in the male that involves an abnormally placed urinary meatus (opening). Instead of opening at the tip of the glans of the p***s, a hypospadic urethra opens anywhere along a line (the urethral groove) running from the tip along the underside (ventral aspect) of the shaft to the junction of the p***s and s*****m or perineum. A distal hypospadias may be suspected even in an uncircumcised boy from an abnormally formed f******n and downward tilt of the glans.

The urethral meatus opens on the glans p***s in about 50-75% of cases; these are categorized as first degree hypospadias. Second degree (when the urethra opens on the shaft), and third degree (when the urethra opens on the perineum) occur in up to 20 and 30% of cases respectively. The more severe degrees are more likely to be associated with chordee, in which the phallus is incompletely separated from the perineum or is still tethered downwards by connective tissue, or with undescended testes (cryptorchidism).

    Hope this helped.

  9. I am having the same trouble with my 12 month old son.  It is heart breaking when the doctor pulled the skin down.  (I was not doing it right either)  I have the same concerns as you.  I had never heard anything like this before.

The doctor told me it was because they left a little extra skin when they did his circumcision.  He said everything will turn out normal.  I am keeping my fingers crossed!  I don't ever want to have to pull the skin down again!

    Good Luck!
