18 teams in AFL?

Question

i was just wondering how you think the finals series will work with the 18 teams.

would it be top eight still?

or will they have top nine with the top team going directly into the next round.

i think it'll be really interesting how the AFL implement these two new teams.

thoughts please :)

Yeah it'll be intresting which way they go hey...?

I would like to see it stay the top 8, it'll make the competition more fierce for a finals spot..

I think theyre gonna have some wrinkles to iron out, but should be good for the game on a whole after a few years..

18 teams would be great.

That would make two less positions up for grabs for the Victorian teams. If they keep adding teams it will soon be that no Victorian team will ever make the eight!

Hey, i think you're right with 18 teams in the AFL the top finishing team in the AFL will get a BYE through to the next round and the 8th and 9th team will play for a final spot in the TOP 8 so that they will eventually still have 18 teams competing.

I reckon it will be interesting to see how the 2 new teams go in their 1st couple of seasons!

18 teams are c**p. i think the AFL should just leave everything the way it is. and besides who actually wants two more QLD and NSW teams in?

18 teams would be a good idea.

Then each team could play each otgher once during the home & away season. Not like it is today - with some teams having to play top teams twice & others not. It has in past caused teams to miss the finals - due to the unequal fixtures.

Plus it will be far better with another couple of non-Victorian teams.

18 teams is stupid, stupid, stupid.

Knowing the AFL, they will make a top 10 or something, more money in more finals, that's all the AFL thinks about, $$$$$$$$$$.

Any one who thinks they are making it 18 for the good of footy is kidding themselves, it's the worst move they have ever made..

i wish they would look in this section sometimes to get a feel of what the public want, but they wouldn't care less.

i think that there will be the top 6 or maybe top 9 but that wont work because 9 is an odd number so i dont know

This is a previous reply i sent to a similar question.

If i'm correct ... it used to be a top 5 with the Top team getting the bye in the first week of finals

then it went to the top 6

Now with 16 teams it became a top 8

what happens with 18 teams ???? a top 9 with the ladder leader getting a bye in the first week of finals

... or still a top 8 as it is now ?

It depends on how many teams they want in the finals, whether it's half the league or not. Either way it will put a lot of noses out of joint
