I am getting married in May and we are thinking of a cruise. I will only be 18 - please don't judge - and I would like to be able to celebrate with my husband. Will I be allowed to drink a little?

  1. *Judges but does not speak my thoughts outloud...*

Depends. If you go out far enough into open waters then yes because you'll be in waters that don't belong to any countries, thus having no laws.

  2. On almost all cruise lines, no matter where the ship is in the world (in US territory or not), the age limit is 21 for alcohol. Some cruise lines also have an 18 year old age limit for beer and wine. Depends on the cruise line.

  3. Legally-no. But you're probably going to anyway.

  4. Not on the boat unless other people buy you the drinks.. they do ID.... but on the islands you'll be able too! congrats, and good luck on your marriage :-)

  5. Not only will you not be able to drink, but one of you has to be 21 to get a cabin.  25 on some cruiselines.

Someone can buy you a drink, but your bartender will not serve you.  He will lose his job.   You're S&S card and room card will have you designated as underage.

Same holds true for most decent hotels.  Someone has to be 21 in order to get a room in a decent resort.

  6. I am a travel agent and I specialize in cruises. It is not legal to drink alcohol on a cruise under the age of 21 no matter where the ship is registered. The only exceptions would be if the port of

departure is in South America. BUT... I've been on many cruises and trust me, you will not have any trouble being served alcohol and more likely than not, you will not be hassled about it.

  7. It depends on where the company that owns the boat is based. Once you're in the ocean, you are in international waters, and so the people on board are subject to the laws of the cruise company headquarters.

If it's registered to an American company, you're probably out of luck unless you disembark on the shores of another nation's territory.

  8. If the ship is under US flag then you can not buy alcohol.

  9. That depends on where the ship is registered.  A lot of ships are registered to the Bahamas or Bermuda.  Once you're in international waters, I believe you can drink at 18.

  10. absolutely. no bartender in their right mind would deny a brandnew bride a silly bottle of champagne. besides, once you leave the territorial seas of the US its a totally different scenario. A Toast to both of you!

  11. first of shelly is wrong, if you are a married couple and can show proof you are allowed on certain cruiselines such as carnival and rc. but you will not be able to buy alcohol on the ship. on your card it will show your age so the bartender will know not to sell it to you. however it can be done somehow, sometimes if you give them a cash tip while you order you will be amazed on what the crew will do for you.also depending on how old/young you look they may give you drinks during the captains cocktail. good luck and congrats
