1885 Chevy Caprice Sedan, Rear Coil Springs....?

My elderly neighbor knows i fix my cars alot. He asked me if i can change his rear coil springs on his car. They are coils over the rear axle with a swing arm, it appears. I know some of the older model GM cars just needed the rear lifted and the springs just popped out....Does this model car have that feature or are the springs welded into place??? I couldn't tell by looking at it. The rear of the car sags low. Thanks in advance!!

  1. wow they made Chevy Caprice Sedan in 1885??

  2. This is from memory, but I think you just have to jack it up, undo the bottom shock bolts, and the swing arms will drop and the springs can be pulled out. You really should be able to see if this is how the springs are installed.

  3. yes they are probably not welded on

    hope this helps

  4. the springs are not welded into place. There is a free on line repair manual for this car on Autozone .com
