  1. You did not mention a mint mark. if there is one it is on the reverse at the bottom below the wreath. The 1888 no mint mark (Philadelphia mint) and 1888-O (New Orleans mint) are worth $14.50-$17 in circulated grades. The 1888-S  (San Francisco mint) is $100 to $160 in circulated grades. Values are about what a oin dealer would pay. If it is the Philly one or New Orleans one they are common and the value has more to do with the silver in it. That being the case it would be wise not selling now ,but wait for silver is going up and may get real high by the end of 2008.

  2. OK....

We need more information to answer this.  For instance, can we assume this is an American coin?  If so, this would be called a Morgan Silver Dollar.

Second, can you confirm this coin was struck at the Philadelphia mint?  If so, it would have no mint mark.  If it did, I believe it is located on the back of the coin, near the bottom underneath the eagle.

Third, when you say it's in "good" condition, that can mean two different things to collectors.  There is an official classification of clarity / sharpness of a coin ("newness", if you will) that helps determine its value.  The highest category for a coin of this type is "uncirculated".  Below these, in order, are categories such as extra fine, fine, very good, good, fair and poor.

When you say it's "good", is it because it was appraised by an expert and fell into this category?  Or have you simply looked at the coin yourself, noted it was relatively sharp & clear, and called it in "good condition" in a more informal, general way?

If you answer these questions, I can give you a much more specific answer as to what this coin is worth.  Please add this info to your question.  Thanks.

  3. the person above did a good job covering your question. the "S" mint mark for that year is by far the best.
