18th birthday - non-dairy food ideas and decorations?

We are having an 18th birthday next weekend - it will be cold but will have a patio heater.

Theme is Fiction and Fantasy - so basically it is dress up as your favourite book/tv/movie character.

I'd like some decoration ideas but I mainly need non-dairy food ideas for nibblies etc.

Thanks.

  1. Fantasy says to me "dark and mysterious" so obviously you need black or velvety moroon table cloths. Maybe you could also have silky material draped around the place with stars on the material. Same goes for all of the chairs, drape material on them and tie them with ribbon. Make everything misterious, maybe have a smoke machine, but also have balloons and all of the usual things.

Non-dairy is really simple, you just have to be willing to read lots of ingredients and spend a smidge more money.

If you want nondairy because someone is intolerant to dairy, then try substituting butter for nuttelex and milk for soy (or a2 milk possibly... if they aren't lactose intollerant but are intollerant to dairy). For chocolates, get soychocolate and dark chocolate (make sure it doesn't have dairy in it though, some do!) There is a brand called "constant cravings" that make the most gorgeous vegan chocolates.

Usually if someone can't have dairy, they are able to have sheeps milk, you could make pizzas and put sheeps milk fetta on them (really yummy!)

Have the usual plain chips (some brands have dairy though) popcorn (keeping with movies) Cupcakes (make them yourself with nuttellex and soymilk)

If you want more ideas on dairy free food, then check out http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/collecti... it has lots of ideas.

    good luck ^^

  2. Corn chips and hummous, and/or vegan nachos.

Potato wedges and sweet chilli sauce.

Check out your local library for vegan cookbooks and you'll probably find a few good recipes for vegan cakes and other sweets.
