19 weeks preg and lactacting ALREADY?

I'm 19 weeks pregnant with my first baby.. and two days ago I noticed that I'm lactating. (TMI) I had this white gooey stuff on my nipple so I squeezed it and this clearish/whitish colored liquid came out.. Now every time I squeeze my nipples (I do it gently).. That liquid comes out.

Is this normal?

I always heard that you are not supposed to lactate until you are a lot further along?

(I dont have a doctor yet, I'm getting insurance and the insurance company wont reimburse any appt's before i'm approved.. and pre-natal appt's where I live start at 250$ per office visit)

Thank you!!

  1. It's normal.  Some women leak early, some late, some not at all.

    Don't squeeze, and don't worry.

  2. I started lactating at 14 weeks.  Its normal for some women.  Get some breast pads and a comfy bra b/c soon you won't be able to sleep with out one or you will wake up soaked!

AS for not having a doc yet, make sure your taking your vitamins.  You really need to start seeing a doc soon.  20 weeks is when they usually do an ultra sound to make sure everything is okay.

go to babycenter.com and babyzone.com to learn what you should and should not do.

    Congrats and good luck

  3. First, stop squeezing.  It's not a good idea.  You might be lactating but I would be really surprised.  Sometimes different infections can cause a liquid to come out.  Just stop squeezing and wait to see a doctor.

  4. Check to see if there is a Planned Parenthood http://www.plannedparenthood.org/  or other clinic in your area that offers services free or on a sliding scale.  If the Planned Parenthood in your area doesn't offer prenatal services (not all of them do) they should be able to direct you to someone in your area who does.  You shouldn't continue to wait for your insurance to kick in... you need to get some prenatal care asap.  If you go to a clinic they will only charge you what you can afford.

Also, make sure you start taking prenatal vitamins.  Any store brand will work just fine... and they are usually pretty cheap.  I get them at Target for less than 5 dollars a bottle.

As for the leaking... that is pretty normal!  I've been leaking a bit here and there since my 14th week.  Usually it dries and itches... so I've been using a warm washcloth to clean it off.  Don't squeeze your nipples though, and try not to play around with them too much... fooling around with your nipples can cause contractions.

Anyway, good luck!  Hopefully your insurance will clear soon! :-)

  5. everybody's body works differently. some people lactate earlier, some later but when u find a doctor, ask to confirm.

  6. it is normal.  most women don't start that until later in pregnancy but it doesn't mean that it is not normal.  as far as prenatal appointments,  I would check with thte state to see if they can help in some way until your insurance kicks in because your due for your ultrasound already and you should have been see 3-4 times by now.  good luck with everything hope all is well when  you get to see your doctor.

  7. First of all are you taking prental vitamins?  They are only like $8 a bottle and can be purchased at any drugstore!!!!!  If not start taking them asap.

Yes this clearish liquid is totally normal, I had it with my first around 18 weeks and with my second around 30 wks, (not yet with my 3rd at 17 weeks).

    Congrats.
