19-year-old Australian Jake Higginbottom goes professional
Jake Higginbottom is a 19 year old golfer, who hails from Australia, and is a member of the Golf Australia national squad.
The blonde haired, broad shouldered Australian, made history at the Clearwater Golf Club, and played a spectacular final round, that won him the tournament.
The win at the Clearwater Golf Club tournament has made him the first amateur Australian since 1956 to do so.
Coached by Gary Barter, Higginbottom is a member of the Australian Golf Club and the Charlestown Golf Club. The Australian is inspired by the golfing great Tiger Woods.
Higginbottom recently won the New Zealand Open after having played some magnificent shots under pressure. The win definitely boosted his confidence.
Now, he is considering going professional, changing his previous statement in which he stated that he will wait for a year before he turns professional.
"I've discussed this with my team and we're all very comfortable with the move," he said. "I made the decision straight after I won," reported Higginbottom.
There were certain shots he played during the tournament that influenced his decision, and consequently, changed his mind after he had won the tournament.
"I knew it was a crucial drive," he said of his shot into the final hole on the last day of the tournament. "That drive reinforced to me I can trust my swing under pressure, which is good".
He continued "Shots like that one helped my decision. All the shots I hit through that back nine showed me I could handle it".
There are immense expectations from the teenage golfer. His performance in the professional arena will be followed up closely by the PGA Australia.
There is plenty to look forward to by the followers of Higginbottom as he plays PGA qualifiers on the professional arena. It is yet to be seen if the step taken by the Australian proves to be a successful one.
The one thing that can be said about the youngster is that he is high on confidence and is stepping into the professional arena on a fine note after winning the New Zealand Open.
