My 19 year old cat has weak back legs and cant jump that good, She has CRF and gets the following medicine ...

1 Sub Q fluids 50ML Daily

2 Antacid medicine every other day for acid buildup.

We do all the obvious for her, by making it easier to get on the bed and in windows and we are very careful of her and baby her.

I was wondering what others use for any type of arthritis pain for your cat.

i do not have Any $ to take her back to the vet at the moment, but i will soon.

So please tell me what you have used in the past and present..

recently she seems like she has her off days, but she has a good appetite!! She will not eat prescribed food so we give her Fancy feast & Meow Mix both moist and NO dry food...She has few teeth and its bad for her CRF, not to mention she throws it up cause she cant chew it.

  1. CRF causes weakness in the back legs-especially if their createnine and urea levels are very high-it happened to our cat and we thought it was arthritis so the vet gave her a shot of Metacam-whatever you do don't give your cat this as it destroyed what was left of our cat's kidneys and has killed a lot of cats in this way. all pain medications are bad for cats with CRF so be careful-it very likely isn't arthritis anyway so they wouldn't help. you should think about booking her into the vet for a drip to flush out some of the toxins as sub q fluids aren't as effective and she sounds like she needs it-it will perk her up for a bit and buy her some more time.

  2. Hi

I think metacam is given to cats with arthritis.Maybe you can call and get a script instead ofpaying for an appointment.

Glad you are not giving the script food. Keep the phosperous down

    Best to you

  3. try glucosome tablets, you can get them at walmart in the pets section and dont cost very much. it is called joint formula for cats. i had to use this for my cat fter he broke his leg. he was about8 years old & he started walking & jumping without pain again.
