Question:

19 year old passport, renew or apply for new one?

I have a passport from when I was kid that expired in '89 and I am not sure what the best way to updating it is. I checked the US Govt passport site and it seems like 15 years is the cut off to renew.

Should I renew or apply for a new one?

Any help on this would be great.

  1. Just renew it - its less hassle then having to go down in person to apply for a new one,

As long as it meets the following criteria

Already have a passport that is not damaged; and

Received it within the past 15 years; and

Were at least age 16 when it was issued; and

Still have the same name as in passport (or you can legally document your name change

Travel.State.gov  - you can print out renewal forms - add 2 recent photos and submit expired passport

  2. Call the National Passport Hotline and ask them, because they can tell you what to do.  It is harder to get a passport now a days.  They will know what to do.
