What were people like in the 1920's/before? Their morals? Did they act better, more civilized than we do today? How do we differ now and how are we still the same regarding our beliefs? Did they speak better than we do now? Were they less selfish? What are some old fashioned "good" things we've lost as the years have passed?

  1. Read Charles Dickens-you will get a very good picture opf what life was like then.

  2. Aside from a little shorter not much different.

Common morality is unchanging. Concerns about degeneration & moral decline are voiced in most societies at most times in history.

Just about anything people regard as something good from the past also had a dark side; social unity (where it existed) had virulent nationalism and the greater prevalence of religion bred intolerant law making.

If your gran tells you she used to leave the door unlocked it was probably because she had nothing worth stealing...

  3. I hope the first answer was a joke. Read F. Scott Fitzgerald.

WWI was a transitional period so you really have to compare society before WWI and after. After WWI, it was the Roaring Twenties in the US. The post-war economy was strong in the US and the rest of the Allied nations and everyone was happy the war was over, and wanted to avoid anymore wars in the future.

This was during Prohibition but drinking in "speakeasies" and the like was a popular pastime. Organized crime prospered by providing the alcohol. Many women became flappers, who were all about Jazz, dancing, smoking and drinking, sexuality, and basically having fun.

The Roaring Twenties ended two months early in 1929 when the stock market crashed and started the Great Depression.

I know that doesn't answer all of your questions and it's a little bit vague, but that was the general idea. For more, Google "Roaring Twenties".
