  1. You can use any pin for the float as long as it is fairly snug. I've used drill shanks -grinding off the drill part. Just don't put in one that is to tight- those old castings are brittle. If that is not the pin you are talking about- some had an alignment pin to keep the carb pointed at the motor. Sounds silly now, but back then everything was put together by hand and some of the fasteners and holes were -well-loose. This motor probably had a die cast water pump and thin aluminum wear plate. Be real gentle with this set up as the di-cast impeller is brittle and real hard to find. The lower took or was converted to water proof grease. Real simple pull and go. So polish it all up- get it tuned and a new pull cord- you don't want that wire core pull rope cutting up your parts. And go get some admirers. New decals and some parts are available from Lentini marine in Flemington NJ.  Have fun

  2. There are pins that align the parts for assembly, a pin that holds the float in, and there may be more that I don't know about.

Sounds like you need a trip to the public library and check out the OMC motor manual for your year of outboard. It will have exploded views of the engine, including the carb.
