I have a child's diary from 1938 that refers to some people playing "Crossword Lingo." Does anyone know, was this just a term for a crossword puzzle, or some type of board game? I've searched and can't find any reference to it. Thanks!

  1. search the diary and mabey it will tell you there

  2. It might have been an early version of scrabble, or based on an early version of scrabble, since scrabble itself was not trademarked as Scrabble until 1948, but it was first conceived in the early 1930's.  These links may help.

  3. They were probably talking about crossword clues.
