  1. "We'll meet Again" "Lilli Marlene" " I'll be seeing you" and "J'attendre" gave Hope to many who said goodbye to their husbands and boyfriends for the last time. In England, Germany, USA and France. Wish you well.

  2. I think the "Tennessee Waltz" by Patti Page was probably in the forties.

It's a sad and beautiful song.

  3. We'll meet again is a sad song about a soldier going to war

  4. 'white cliffs of Dover' sung by dame Vera Lynn, she was a singer during WWII. she was nicked named 'the forces sweetheart'

  5. "  In the mood " Glen Miller .

  6. Most of the vocal music of the 1940's was related to war.  "Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition", "Boggy woogie bugle boy of company B", "Coming in on a wing and a Prayer"; "Mares eat oats and does eat oats (and little lambs eat Ivy)."

The Instrumental music was a lot of big bands.  Glenn Miller, the Dorsey's, Ozzie Nelson (Rickey's father), Stan Kenton and many, many more.

Try looking in www.sheetmusicplus.com  they have a very extensive library and I seem to remember seeing some music books by DECADE so you can get music from the 40's, 50's, 60's etc.

Not all the music during WW2 was sad music... most people wanted novelty songs and up tempo music.  WW1 had some more serious music... "Over There" and "Mademoiselle from Mar Matiers" for instance

  7. Edith Piaf sang some really sad songs.

  8. Tamart is so correct "Lili Marlene" (Marlene Dietrich)

And "We'll Meet Again" Also "Don't Fence Me in"
