I believe I have found a 1946 inverted S wheat penny. it is in good condition with good detail, except the last two digits of the date which are almost nonexistent.

If it is real, what would it be worth?

  1. He meant 1955 not 1855....

  2. There is a 1946-S over a D but I have no reference to an inverted S. With the last 2 digits as you say almost nonexistent, I tend to think the coin is damaged and not an error. Things kind of ran smooth at the mint after World war II. It was not until 1855 when the famous doubled die came out and then 1956 when the cent went over the billion mark every year on most cents that the high speed started to make a lot of errors as well as damaged coins. You can try a coin dealer or two for when it comes to error coins they really need to be seen for all I can do is go by what you say then guess at to what happened. I really don't like to guess when it comes to numismatics. I like to hit the nail on the head so to speak so the person gets an intelligent and correct answer. See if you can find a dealer who knows something about error coins for a lot really do not.
