(350 with mild cam and t400 tranny) so i got the starting issue resolved, it was the voltage regulator... NOW! the d**n thing is running too rich or too lean not sure, its smoking a little black smoke, it just started today, and sputering a little bit, i looked under the hood and there is gas leaking at the gasket where the carb connects to the intake manifold (holly street avenger carb and holly street dominator intake manifold dosen't look like any spacers are there) i called autozone and the guy said it might need torked down tighter, or the worng gasket is on there, or it might be a blow back? issue...so im totally lost now and pissed as a mother at the guy that i payed to do this engine swap... it's just one thing after the other thinking of selling it lol... please HELP!

  1. how is the gasket on the intake, where the carb. sits?if its good, try to tighten it down some. also the float might be set too high. after you set the float, turn each jet in until they seat, then back each 1 out 1/4 turn, start your car and turn each jet out until you get a good idle.

  2. you MIGHT  have the wrong TYPE of gasket.....on the older models the gasket had a steel shim on the bottom of the regular gasket.   if this was not used the carb would tend to flood when warm......not saying this is YOUR problem but worth checking BEFORE you go too much farther with something radical.

  3. Ok it has to be running to rich. If the gasket was leaking it would be running lean as it would be getting to much air.

Being there is black smoke it is rich.

Take the 2 air screws on the front of the crab and back them out 1/4 turn at a time .

  4. Do you have a fuel pressure regulator? I had a 600 cfm Edelbrock that always flooded until someone told me I needed a regulator. I believe Holleys need them, too.
