Question:

1965 mustang auto trans shift from low to second but does not shift to third any ideas?

thank for some of great responses the tranny fluid and filter are new and also seals the car i understand has band adjustments on the outside how wiil i know the correct one i need to adjust and where are they located driver side or pass before i jump into the rebuild

  3. Ford auto trannies have external band adjustments (2).  Been a while since I've done then.  Think you loosen the the lock collar, turn the adjuster in all the way, & then back off one full turn.  Best if you buy a service manual to make sure of the adjustment.

  5. IIRC the '65 has a C4. Your band are probably fried, time for a rebuild. Not uncommon for the age. Fortunately it's a pretty simple transmission to rebuild, won't cost near as much as it would on a newer car.  

  6. I had a Trans-Am that did this, the mechanic said a spring had broke in it. Also  he suggested getting the carb rebuilt.
