I am thinking of buying a 1966 Ford F-100 and fixing it up. Does anyone know what it would cost to replace the valve seals? Just an approximate amount.

  1. You can do that with the heads on the motor. When you get a valve spring off, remember to wiggle the valve to make sure it's not loose at the stem. If it doesn't wiggle, just put on a new seal. If it's a straight 6 figure 2-3 hrs.

  2. It's going to depend on which motor you've got.  If it's a 240 with one head it will be cheaper than the 302 or 352 (the 360 wasn't offered untill '68-69).  If you need seals, you should go ahead and rebuild the motor completely.  Ford's motors, expecially the 240 six cylinder were tuff as nails, when the heads wore out the rest of the motor wasn't far behind.  A basic rebuild can be done from under 1200 up to 2500 on the top side depending on the shop and what they do.  Good luck.

  3. A '66 F-100 should have a 360 engine. The valve seals could be difficult to changfe if your mechanic isn't familiar with the FE engines. Pulling the heads would be the easiest way to do it except for the following...

On FE engines the pushrods go though the intake manifold so that's first.

The manifolds on those are painfully heavy, somewhere in the range of about 80 pounds. Gonna need an engine hoist if you're doing it yourself.

From there the rest is fairly straighforward.

As far as cost goes, a realistic number should be around $250.

Thaat may sound high until you consider that most of those engines don't have hardened valve *seats* (necessary when using unleaded gas) so the job at the machine shop would include new seats, seals and maybe even guides.

Not too much work for any decent machine shop.

    Good luck.

  4. you should be able to have the valve seals replaced for under $300 you do not have take the heads off to replace vavle seals                                                                                                                    [[[[[[        the question was how much  to replace valve seals not heads      ]]]]]]]

  5. $1200 including labor.

You can  pull the heads your self to save a lot of money. It should cost about $400 to have the valves reground and you will want to have the guides changed to harden guides.

  6. it is not a 302 in1966 unless someone put it there after 1968. but, valve stem seals would run about $300-$500 depeding on 6 cyl or v8.

  7. what motor? This would determine if you should replace the heads cheaper or rebuild. 302 you can find almost new bolt on's for cheap.  if inline 6 you will need some one who has worked on them before.  or you can just pull your plug's every week and clean them for freeeee.
