what you guys/gals think, good deal? ok first off, its from my friend so i trust the full story of the car and ive driven it and it runs good, it supposedly has 110,000 original miles, but how can you ever know for sure with old cars, my friend got it from an older man and he got it from the original owner a girl. it has all documentation and original handbook. it has been under a shed when not in use so its in very nice shape except for a lil rust on trunk-end from stickin out of shed, but it has original white paintjob with lil chips of paint when you get up close, the interior is PERFECT and turcoise, so it shows the people who owned it were clean. it has all power settings and the oldschool radio. old hubcaps, so hopefuly engine was treated with care, and the deal we made for the price is 4000, so basically i can get it any time i want now, but im hesistant but passionate.

  1. The mileage becomes irrelevant for a car this old. Seals leak, rubber dries up and rots, Little internal parts rust. this is not to say it is a junk car. It depends how much you like this car I have many old, very valuable cars. But what they mean to me is more important then what they are worth. This is not just a car you are getting, it will, if you love cars, become a passion. It makes you, Well, you.

How many of your friends drive one like it?

Old car engines, no matter what any one tells you, do not last as long as a new car engine that is well taken car of. That is because of unleaded gasoline, which is your next problem. The valve seats in the cyl heads are not hardened for unleaded gasoline. If you use today's gas the valves will wear out and sink into the head.

But if you LOVE this car, and you should, Get a rebuilt engine with hardened seats or` have your engine rebuilt and any machine shop can install hardened seats. You'll be good for another 100,000 miles and have a unique classic car.

This is NOT a car you will buy and just expect to drive to Wall Mart and grocery store everyday without working on it. If it will be your ONLY car spend the $4000.00 on a REGULAR car.

  2. As far as i'm concerned, 1966 is the last of the real T-Birds. There are a lot of cool details, including the Swing-Away steering wheel and the sequential turn signals.

I agree with the first poster, about the rubber. The electrics and vacuum lines are a challenge not to be undertaken by the faint of heart, and I seem to recall that there are some peculiar aspects to the steering box.

Rehab and replace the worn-out bits, spring for frsh paint, and you'll have a fun, attention-getting, thirsty (13 mpg, tops) conversation starter.
