The lower unit is frozen and I am trying to take it apart. There are four slot screws under the prop. I have taken those out but can't slide the prop shaft and gears out.

There is a round part that these screws fit in that is between the prop and housing. It looks like it comes out or screws off. But it won't move. How would you suggest I get the shaft and gears out of the lower unit.

  1. Invest in a repair and maintenance manual.  It will pay for itself fast.  Here's a link:

  2. If this is an electric shift, I would research the parts first.(lost my book) You may be better off with a junkyard replacement than trying to mess with this very tough repair job. It could be an electro-hydro or the hydrolic assist shift. They were really working on a lot of designd in the sixtys. So take the others advice and get a book. Read the whole section and decide if working this beast over is your thing.
