Question:

1969 Ford F100 Truck - How do I fix Brake Lights?

Brake lights do not work.

Tail Lights and Turn Signals work.

I have replaced the switch at the brake pedal.

There appears to be power to both bulbs in the back. There are only 2.

I have checked all bulbs - They work.

We can jump wires and make brake lights work, but then I lose the turn signals.

Truck is 2WD, manual brakes.

How do I fix?

Thank you.

  1. those brake light switches are adjustable, maybe it is out of adjustment.

  2. first do what wisdom said and if that doesn't work replace the turn signal switch. Because your brake light switch supplies power to the turn signal so when you have your foot on the brake and turning at the same time your signal and one brake light will work.

  3. Some of those trucks had a switch I think was down low on the dash, left side of the wheel? and it was a 4 way hazard switch I believe. The lights go threw it and if its messed up or been monkeyed with you will have problems. If that is it the only way is to find a replacement switch. I had a freind who had the same problem and thats what his was.I an doing this from memory so not exactly sure of location. There were a few who had this as most didnt..........ujn

  4. First make sure the switch is actually switching; operate the pedal and see if a test light comes on, on the wire feeding the lights. The wireing to the lights from the switch could be broken inside the insulation.

New switchs that old could be corroded on the shelf.

Rusted off body grounds will also stop lights from working.......

  5. Sounds like a bad connection between the bulbs and the sockets.
