i have dual electric cooling fans on my rad trying to cool a 455 cu in engine, blowing full blast, radiator is in good shape, everything is seemingly working fine, except the highway temperature is running 220-230, would flushing the coolant out and putting in new coolant at a 50-50 mixture to water, have any benefits. or should i be looking at going with an aluminum radiator and at that time due a coolant flush, is there a lifespan to engine coolant? and how would you know if it needs replacing, cause last fall i tested it for its freeze protection and it was below minus 40. I need help i don't want to wreck my engine, i want to enjoy driving it!!! And if you recommend putting in an aluminum radiator, where is the best online store to purchase one??

  1. flush the cooling system and make sure you get a 50/50 mix back in it and you could add a bottle of water wetter from summit racing and that alone usually drops the temp 10 degrees, if the thermostat is old I would replace it with a robert shaw 160 degree thermostat and make sure your water pump is good and has no play in it, if you take the fan belt off and grab the fan blades and there is side to side movement the pump is going bad, also make sure you have a radiator shroud on your car as thats good for a big temperature drop.

  2. Heating up at highway speed usually indicates a clogged radiator.A good flushing should do it,if not you may need a new radiator.
