1973 chrysler 35 horse outboard, what are the points settings on these motors, prev owner stated this needed?

1973 monark fishing boat with 2 cylinder 35 horse chrysler motor. could be different year model i guess. prev owner stated points needed to be adjusted. can anyone help me figure this out? any info greatly appreciated.. thanks

  1. Somewhere around .020" should work as a starting point. There are repair manuals for most outboards built for the last 50 years at least. It might be a good idea to buy one. Also lots of outboard motor sites on the internet. Do some searching, 1 link below.


  2. .020 should be okay but if you are using the original points go buy a points file and clean them up a bit or you may be able to renew those points try NAPA if you have one in your area. Napa has a marine dept .... Or try to reference the points on line. You can also buy coils and your plugs at Napa if needed.
