  1. unscrew the sending unit and s***w in a real gauge to see if you have oil pressure to start with if you do S Can the sending unit or just leave the gauge in then you know an idiot light is a joke on anything anyway

  2. Sounds like your oil pressure sensor is shorting out. Check the connections to it and make sure it is getting good contact.

  3. Could be low oil pressure.

    Many causes of that.

  4. yeah i'd say it's a sensor...

and do you have your clutch in when you put it in first?

  5. Well, there was a GREAT invention many years ago, called the CLUTCH, and if you pulled on that thing they called the clutch lever it activated and you could bring the motorcycle to a stop with the brakes and clutch and in gear, so you could kick it down to a lower gear, and into neutral while standing there. Or even sitting.

I'm going to guess its a gage problem, of some sort.  When you checked the oil, did you put it on the center stand, and unscrew the dipstick, before you wiped it off and checked the level of oil(dipstick unscrewed)?  Because thats the prescribed method of checking the oil in older bikes. And checking it with the dipstick unscrewed give a bit higher level of oil.
