1974 Chevy Nova keeps back firing?

i am restoring a chevy nova and when i turn it on it keeps back firing and i do not know why any suggestions

  1. You may need to provide more info on this matter as this could mean several problems. The timing on this may be causing the problem or the firing order of the ignition wires to the plugs from the distributor cap. Is this a 6 or 8 cylinder engine.....please send more info.


  2. 1974, it probably has points. if the points slip, it will backfire.
