  1. you are better of ordering a quality manual so you have it when you need it. most book outlets and or marine parts retailers offer them. or go to your local dealer. I have seen aftermarket and original mercruiser manuals on e-bay as well

  2. dont know but i have one what do you want to know they dont tell much trimm hyd uses 10 wt oil the prop uses 80-90 motor calls for 30wt but i use 10-30 i have a 1977 and it is the same is also a 165 merc inboard not much else to say what are you trying to do i can help

  3. I have one that was published by Clymer.  It covers all mercruisers from1964-1985.  I think I paid about thirty bucks for it from a marine dealer.  I have seen them at auto parts stores as well.  A full shop manual from mercruiser will cost you over a hundred, but they are good.  The 165 is one of my favorite boat motors.  Very smooth and quiet.  Easy to work on.  It is too bad they stopped making them.  A website with a great forum is marinengine.com  They have some good mechanics that respond to forum questions.  An excellent resource.

  4. Check on e-bay.  You can often find used manuals there.  If not, I would advise trying to get one from the manufacturer or a dealer if you want to do work yourself on it.  What you will save in wasted time and energy and probably also parts will be well worth the expenditure.  Best of luck.
